The story so far

I began writing at twelve, filling pages with essays no one assigned. In 2018 I met a poet whose work pushed me toward my own — and writing stopped being a habit and became a calling.

A year later, a piece of creative non-fiction earned me a place at the Pen Pen African Writers Residency in Nairobi, where I sharpened my craft alongside writers from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and Zambia. From there I joined Writers Space Africa, moved into short stories and children's literature, and found my way into journalism.

My literary work has appeared in Brittle Paper, WSA Magazine and Africa in Dialogue, and in several anthologies — Beans Without Korkor? And Other Stories, Threads and Faces: Stories on Identity and Belonging, Twaweza, and Love's Eternal Tale. I've served as an editor for Writers Space Africa (WSA) magazine and was a judge for the African Writers Awards in the short story category in both 2024 and 2025. In 2020 I received the Empower Africa Now award for short fiction.

I'm the founder of the Writers Space Africa–Rwanda chapter and the pioneer of Umukarago, a literary magazine showcasing Rwandan and Rwanda-based writers. My comic book, Mutoni: The Innovator of Kiruku, was published by Imagine We Rwanda in March 2025, and my debut short story collection, A Thread of Silent Echoes, was published by Vine Leaves Press (Greece) in April 2026.

My journalism has been featured in both local and international media, including The New Times (Rwanda), Gospel Times (Rwanda), The Star (Kenya), Bird (across Africa), and The Mirror (Uganda), reporting mainly on technology, innovation and the arts. In October 2023 I was awarded Best Science, Technology and Innovation Communicator by the Rwanda National Council for Science and Technology. In March 2024 I won the AI Reporting Challenge, organised by GIZ Rwanda and UNESCO East Africa. I was also recognised as Best Story Writer for mental health in an award organised by GAERG in collaboration with Rwanda's Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion.

Today my work sits at the intersection of storytelling and service: I write books, edit other people's manuscripts, and lead Writers Space Africa's Rwanda chapter, where I founded Umukarago, a literary magazine for Rwandan and Rwanda-based writers.

Off the page, I'm an extroverted introvert who loves a good slam-poetry night, cooks for the people I love, drinks tea like it's a job, and never turns down a conversation that goes somewhere real. I'm the second of four siblings, curious about almost anything, and drawn to how spirituality and psychology show up in everyday life.
